About The Site

Free typing practice, built and maintained as an independent web product.

Free Online Typing is a typing practice platform for people who want accurate WPM measurement, steady improvement, and useful learning content without a paywall. The site combines interactive typing tools, multilingual practice pages, data-entry drills, and a blog focused on typing technique and keyboard literacy.

What the site offers

Visitors can run timed typing tests, practice with custom text, explore 40+ language modes, and train on structured data-entry formats such as phone numbers, IDs, and account strings.

Who maintains it

The site is independently built and maintained by Amrit Adhikari. Product updates, content revisions, bug fixes, and UX changes are handled on an ongoing basis as the platform grows.

What the goal is

The goal is to publish genuinely useful typing tools and content: not doorway pages, not scraped summaries, and not thin pages whose only purpose is search traffic.

How scoring works on Free Online Typing

Typing scores on this site are based on the standard convention that one word equals five characters, including spaces. Gross WPM reflects raw speed. Net WPM reflects usable speed after errors are considered. Accuracy is derived from correct keystrokes compared with total keystrokes.

Gross WPM = (total characters / 5) / minutes

Net WPM = Gross WPM - error penalty

Accuracy = correct keystrokes / total keystrokes x 100

Different practice modes emphasize different outcomes. Short tests are useful for burst speed, while longer tests are better for sustained performance. For a mode-by-mode breakdown, visit Typing Modes.

How content is created and updated

  • Tool pages are reviewed when test behavior, modes, or navigation change.
  • Blog articles are written for practical usefulness and updated when the advice or underlying product details change.
  • Incorrect information, broken links, and content issues can be reported through the contact page.

Privacy and data

If you create an account, the site stores the data needed to run your profile, save progress, and show optional history or streak information. Analytics and session-level storage are also used to improve site performance and usability.

Full details are available in the Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.

Contact and accountability

Questions, corrections, support requests, and business inquiries can be sent to contact@freeonlinetyping.com. The site also provides a direct contact form for users who would rather write inside the product.

Why this page exists

Useful sites should make it easy to understand who runs them, what they publish, and how to get help when something is wrong. This page exists for that reason. If you need a policy page, start with Privacy Policy. If you need a human response, use Contact.
